Floral Plant Stake Class
Service Description
Level: All Levels Welcome | Instructor: Emalie We are no strangers to adorning the self so why not do the same with our green friends? Through this workshop you will be able to form a personalized plant stake to accompany your plants. Whether you have a great big garden or one happy plant, this workshop is for you. Bring your sketchbook and bring an open mind while you learn special techniques from Emalie about how to turn copper wire into a lasting specialized decoration. We’ll start the day by experimenting with texture, using stamps or the rolling mill to press unique patterns directly into sheet brass. Next, students will learn the torch soldering to assemble the piece and bring the design to life. Finally, we’ll explore surface finishing by applying a liver of sulfur patina—creating a rich, antique contrast—before hand-polishing your final piece to a gorgeous gleam.

Our studio lives at 3206 Harrelson St, a warehouse-style yellow building at the corner of Harrelson and Bell Street. The entrance to Meta'l faces Harrelson St. You'll see the Art Obscura sign (which was the retail store here before us) and our door is below. CANCELATION: Due to our limited seating space, once a class is booked and paid for, it cannot be refunded. We can however add you to our registration list for the next time we run this class. We can also work with you to reschedule this class on on a one-to-one basis, though there is an additional $35 fee for this. WHAT TO BRING: All equipment, tools, and supplies are provided for this class. Aprons, masks, protective eyewear, and disposable latex gloves are available to those who would like this option. You are welcome to bring a beverage with a lid or sealable water bottle. We have a great coffee shop down at the corner of Harrelson and Conway called Picacho Coffee Roasters with awesome home-baked snacks, coffee, tea, and sparkling water options. Meta'l also has a small purified water dispenser in our sink area for your convenience. STUDIO SAFETY: We ask that each participant review and sign our Liability and Photo Release Form at the start of each class. We will move forward with a short safety tour of the studio before jumping into class content. We also ask that you arrive with closed-toed shoes to guard against dropped steel tools. Hair must be tied back and no loose clothing/jewelry should be worn during the duration of your time in the studio. Please use only the tools our instructors assist you with as part of this class. These rules are in place to mitigate studio injuries and are observed by any who work in our studio.
